The Nigerian equities market closed down by 0.20%, as NGX-ASI closed at 43,199.27 pts. Similarly, NGX-ASI lost 0.12% WTD.
In today’s trade, market breadth index was negative with 23 losers against 16 gainers.
ETERNA (-9.03%) was the top loser, while UNITYBNK (+10.00%) led the gainers today.
GTCO (-2.68%) was the most actively traded stock with about 50 million units of shares worth about N1.26 billion.
Sector Performances
- NGX Banking Index: Fell by 0.79%, as a result of the sell-offs recorded in WEMABANK (-4.71%), STERLNBANK (-1.32%), UBA (-1.20%), ACCESS (-1.10%) and ZENITHBANK (-0.83%).
- NGX Consumer Goods Index: Decreased by 0.57%, on the back of losses printed in NB (-2.86%), FLOURMILL (-1.85%) and PZ (-0.83%).
- NGX Oil and Gas Index: Declined by 0.23%, due to the loss recorded in ETERNA (-9.03%).
- NGX Industrial Index: Dropped by 0.01%, as a result of the decline recorded in CUTIX (-4.18%).

The equities market closed in the negative territory today due to the losses recorded across major sectors. Going forward, we expect investor’s sentiments to be swayed by the search for real positive returns and developments in the interest rate space.
