The Nigerian equities market closed negatively by 0.51%, as NGX-ASI closed at 42,247.98 pts.
In today’s trade, market breadth index was broadly negative with 34 losers against 17 gainers.
BOCGAS (-10.00%) was the top loser, while MEYER (+10.00%) led the gainers today.
FBNH (+0.42%) was the most actively traded stock with about 113 million units of shares worth about N1.35 billion.
Sector Performances
- NGX Oil and Gas Index: Fell by 3.51%, on the back of the sell-off recorded in SEPLAT (-6.47%) and OANDO (-3.56%).
- NGX Banking Index: Dipped by 1.18%, as a result of the losses printed in JAIZBANK (-5.88%), ETI (-2.44%), ZENITHBANK (-1.88%), UBA (-1.25%) and FIDELITYBK (-0.79%).
- NGX Industrial Index: Decreased by 0.10%, due to the decline recorded in WAPCO (-1.80%).
- NGX Consumer Goods Index: Increased by 0.08%, on the back of the gains in INTBREW (+2.13%) and NB (+0.32%).

The equities market closed in the negative territory today due to the losses recorded in MTNN and other major sectors. Going forward, we expect investor’s sentiments to be swayed by the search for real positive returns and developments in the interest rate space. We reiterate that this may be a great period to pick up some quality names with a medium to long-term investment horizon.
