The Nigerian equities market closed southwards by 0.19%, as NGX-ASI closed at 42,167.91 pts. Similarly, the NGX-ASI lost 2.36% WTD.
In today’s trade, market breadth index was negative with 18 losers against 13 gainers.
FTNCOCOA (-7.89%) was the top loser, while UPDC (+10.00%) led the gainers today.
GTCO (-1.63%) was the most actively traded stock with about 24 million units of shares worth about N582 million.
Sector Performances
- NGX Consumer Goods Index: Fell by 0.09%, on the back of the sell-off recorded in CHAMPION (-5.88%), HONYFLOUR (-2.78%), DANGSUGAR (-1.23%) and FLOURMILL (-0.17%).
- NGX Banking Index: Dipped by 0.06%, as a result of the losses printed in UNITYBNK (-3.77%), ACCESS (-1.11%) and ZENITHBANK (-0.21%).
- NGX Industrial Index: Increased by 0.02%, due to the gain recorded in WAPCO (+0.41%).
- NGX Oil and Gas Index: Closed Flat.

The equities market closed in the negative territory today due to the losses recorded in MTNN, Consumer Goods and Banking sectors. Going forward, we expect investor’s sentiments to be swayed by the search for real positive returns and developments in the interest rate space. We reiterate that this may be a great period to pick up some quality names with a medium to long-term investment horizon.
