The Nigerian equities market closed in negative territory by 0.29% as NGX-ASI closed at 47,063.28pts.
In today’s trade, market breadth index was neutral with 23 gainers against 23 losers.
NCR (+10.00%) was the top gainer, while JAPAULGOLD (-7.69%) led the losers today
FIDELITYBK (+0.68%) was the most actively traded stock with about 35million units of shares worth about N104million.
Sector Performances
- NGX Oil and Gas Index: Fell by 0.24%, due to the sell-off recorded in OANDO (-1.60%).
- NGX Industrial Index: Declined by 0.07%, on the back of the loss recorded in WAPCO (-0.93%).
- NGX Consumer Goods Index: Increased by 1.14%, as a result of the buy-interest witnessed in GUINNESS (+10.00%), CHAMPION (+7.58%) and UNILEVER (+6.08%).
- NGX Banking Index: Rose by 0.04%, due to the gains printed in FIDELITY (+0.68%) and ZENITHBANK (+0.56%).

The equities market closed southwards today due to the losses printed in the Oil and Gas and Industrial sectors. Going forward, we expect investor’s sentiments to be swayed by the search for real positive returns and developments in the interest rate space. We reiterate that this may be a great period to pick up some quality names with a medium to long-term investment horizon.
