The Nigerian equities market closed in the negative territory by 0.01% as NGX-ASI closed at 47,262.61pts.
In today’s trade, market breadth index was slightly positive with 19 gainers against 18 losers.
CORNERST (+9.38%) was the top gainer, while NIGERINS (-8.70%) led the losers today.
JAIZBANK (+3.90%) was the most actively traded stock with about 72million units of shares worth about N84million.
Sector Performances
- NGX Oil and Gas Index: Fell by 2.40%, on the back of the loss recorded in SEPLAT (-4.26%).
- NGX Banking Index: Increased by 0.67%, due to the buy-interests witnessed in JAIZBANK (+3.90%), FIDELITYBK (+3.09%), UBA (+2.11%) and ZENITHBANK (+1.51%).
- NGX Consumer Goods Index: Appreciated by 0.16%, as a result of the gains printed in HONYFLOUR (+5.14%), INTBREW (+2.00%) and DANGSUGAR (+0.64%).
- NGX Industrial Index: Closed Flat.

The equities market closed southwards today due to the loss printed in the Oil and Gas sector. Going forward, we expect investor’s sentiments to be swayed by the search for real positive returns and developments in the interest rate space.
