Training and capacity building refers to workshops, initiatives and training programs that up-skill individuals by providing them with access to resources, advancing their skillset and expanding their knowledge. As a result, companies are able to acquire and retain employees that possess the necessary tools to fulfil job positions competently. The additional effect is that greater capacity is built industry-wide- with more individuals performing adequately on the job, operations run smoothly and the industry as a whole is strengthened.
It is with this goal in mind that the African Energy Chamber (AEC) launched the Energy Pioneers Program (EPP). Here are some of the reasons why companies should be part of training and capacity building:
To ensure industry growth and job creation
It is advantageous to companies for the sector in which they conduct business to have a more-than-average growth rate in comparison to other sectors. If this is the case, particularly in the energy sector, not only will business boom for companies in the energy sector but also access to energy will increase across the globe. In this way, the local workforce benefits as more jobs are created and socio-economic change is affected.
To support Equal-by-30 objectives
Equal-by-30 is a campaign in terms of which organisations make a public commitment to work towards equal pay, equal leadership and equal opportunities for women in the clean energy sector by 2030. By participating in training and capacity building, companies can actively ensure that women are equipped with the same tools as men thereby advocating for gender equality in the workplace and closing the gender gap in terms of pay, leadership and opportunities for women in the workplace.
To up-skill young individuals
Ultimately, training and capacity building focuses on teaching, educating and training individuals to mould them into business professionals. An internship program is a great starting point as young individuals are eager to learn, open-minded and able to grasp new practices with ease. These young individuals require training and mentorship to be groomed into future leaders of the energy sector.
With the above benefits to consider, companies are welcome to participate in the Energy Pioneers Program. The African Energy Chamber assures stability and success during the process. Furthermore, the Energy Pioneers Program seeks to find intelligent, determined, and curious young individuals for our host companies.
