The Nigerian equities market closed in the negative territory by 0.19% as NGX-ASI closed at 47,340.86pts.
In today’s trade, market breadth index was negative with 22 losers against 15 gainers.
VERITASKAP (+4.76%) was the top gainer, while CORNEREST (-8.82%) led the losers today.
UBA (-2.30%) was the most actively traded stock with about 23million units of shares worth about N200million.
Sector Performances
· NGX Oil and Gas Index: Fell by 1.59%, on the back of the loss recorded in SEPLAT (-3.03%).
· NGX Banking Index: decreased by 0.09%, due to the losses witnessed in JAIZBANK (-2.78%), UBA (-2.30%), UNITYBNK (-0.81%), and ZENITH (-0.74%).
· NGX Consumer Goods Index: Appreciated by 0.17%, as a result of the gains recorded in UNILEVER (+3.85%), INTBREW (+0.99%), and FLOURMILLS (+0.79%).
· NGX Industrial Index: Increased marginally by 0.01%, due to the gain printed in WAPCO (+0.21%).

The equities market closed southwards today due to the losses recorded in the Oil and Gas and Banking sectors. Going forward, we expect investor’s sentiments to be swayed by the search for real positive returns and developments in the interest rate space. We reiterate that this may be a great period to pick up some quality names with a medium to long-term investment horizon.
