The Nigerian equities market closed negative by 0.06% as the NGX-ASI settled at 50,594.97pts.
In today’s trade, market breadth index was positive with 22 gainers against 15 losers.
LASACO (+10.00%) was the top gainer, while LEARNAFRICA (-10.00%) led the losers today.
MTNN (-0.09%) was the most actively traded stock with about 10million units of shares worth about N2billion.
Sector Performances
· NGX Industrial Index: Decreased by 0.45%, as a result of the sell-offs recorded in BUACEMENT (-2.24%) and CUTIX (-2.17%).
· NGX Banking Index: Fell by 0.32%, due to the losses printed in UNITYBNK (-4.26%), FIDELITYBK (-3.85%) and JAIZBANK (-1.23%).
· NGX Consumer Goods Index: Rose by 0.39%, driven by the appreciation seen in HONYFLOUR (+9.69%), DANGSUGAR (+6.25%) and FLOURMILL (+1.64%).
· NGX Oil and Gas Index: Increased by 0.28%, on the back of the gains printed in ETERNA (+5.81%) and ARDOVA (+4.17%).

The equities market closed southwards due to the losses seen in the Industrial and Banking sectors. Going forward, we expect investor’s sentiments to be swayed by the search for real positive returns and developments in the interest rate space. We reiterate that this may be a great period to pick up some quality names with a medium to long-term investment horizon.
