The Nigerian equities market closed northwards by 0.39% as the NGX-ASI settled at 49,836.51pts.
In today’s trade, market breadth index was positive with 20 gainers against 12 losers.
GUINNESS (+9.88%) led the gainers, while CHIPLC (-7.69%) was the top loser today.
STERLNBANK (+1.97%) was the most actively traded stock with about 162 million units of shares worth about N239 million.
Sector Performances
· NGX Consumer Goods Index: Jumped by 1.80%, as a result of the appreciation seen in GUINNESS (+9.88%), BUAFOODS (+4.48%) and DANGSUGAR (+2.50%).
· NGX Banking Index: Increased by 0.62%, due to the buy-interest on FIDELITYBK (+4.93%), STERLNBANK (+1.97%) and ETI (+1.85%).
· NGX Industrial Index: Climbed by 0.37%, as a result of the gain printed in WAPCO (+4.60%).
· NGX Oil and Gas Index: Rose by 0.33%, on the back of the gains seen in ARDOVA (+4.13%) and OANDO (+0.99%).

The equities market closed positive due to the gains recorded across major sectors. Going forward, we expect investor’s sentiments to be swayed by the search for real positive returns and developments in the interest rate space. We reiterate that this may be a great period to pick up some quality names with a medium to long-term investment horizon.
