The local equities market lost 0.12% as the NGX-ASI settled at 49,161.45pts.
In today’s trade, market breadth index was negative with 17 losers against 14 gainers.
MULTIVERSE (+10.00%) led the gainers, while MAYBAKER (-9.79%) was the top loser today.
TRNASCORP (-3.85%) was the most actively traded stock with about 38 million units of shares worth about N38.99 million.
Sector Performances
· NGX Banking Index: Declined by 0.65%, due to the losses recorded in ACCESSCORP (-4.55%), UBA (-1.39%) and STERLNBANK (-0.66%).
· NGX Consumer Goods Index: Closed southwards by 0.52%, as a result of the depreciation seen in VITAFOAM (-6.98%) and UNILEVER (-5.38%).
· NGX Industrial Index: Decreased by 0.01%, as a result of the loss printed in CUTIX (-0.49%).
· NGX Oil and Gas Index: Rose by 0.20%, driven by the gain recorded in ETERNA (+9.91%).
Performance of key stocks
The equities market closed in red due to the losses seen in the banking, consumer goods and Industrial sectors. Going forward, we expect investor’s sentiments to be swayed by the search for real positive returns and developments in the interest rate space. We reiterate that this may be a great period to pick up some quality names with a medium to long-term investment horizon.
